Finding the right shoe color for certain color dresses may be more difficult than others. Blue or royal blue might seem like a more complicated color to match with the right color shoes.

That's because it's a bold, very cool-hued tone that seems daunting to pair with the right shoe color. Unlike, say, white or black dresses.

However, you'll be happily surprised at the number of unexpectedly fabulous color shoes to go with blue dresses! Also true when looking at accessory colors such as jewelry and purses.

Can you wear black shoes with a blue dress? You may have asked yourself that, and YES – you can wear black shoes with a blue dress. It's actually a lovely bold shoe choice with an equally bold dress color. You will get noticed!

Purse color & jewelry tip:: Match your royal blue dress black heels outfit with a black bag – maybe even a jeweled or patent version – or a metallic purse. Silver, gold or rose gold will be charming!

But don't discount a white bag. A small white clutch can look great with this color mix! Match your jewelry tone with the metallic accessory you chose or opt for silver.

2. Royal Blue Dress with Nude Shoes

One of the most popular color shoes to wear with blue dresses are nude shoes. Especially nude heels for blue dresses! Of course, I use the word “nude” as the color that matches your skin tone – whatever that maybe.

The goal is that your nude shoe matches your legs. That way – especially with a shorter dress – it will give the illusion that your legs go on for miles!

If you want your nude shoes to really blend into your skin, pick a strappy pair of stilettos. Can't find a match for your skin tone? Try a metallic gold sandal. It will reflect the color of your skin and look more minimal.

Purse color & jewelry tip: A white, gold or black purse will work best with your nude shoes and blue dress. You can opt for any tone of jewelry metal, but I prefer gold or rose gold accents with this combo.

3. White Shoes with Blue Dress

Great for the summer months and as a winter bright, a pair of white heels, ankle boots or sandals will liven up a blue dress for any occasion! White shoes will look fresh and fun, however, they will be slightly more informal than other color shoes.

This is particularly true if you choose a high heeled pump like Sam Edelman's Hazel, a minimal sandal or sleek white booties. These will really pop with a royal blue dress!

Purse color & jewelry tip: You can easily match your blue dress and white shoes with a white purse. A silver clutch will add a touch of glam.

Make sure your purse is small, like a cross-body or clutch if you're going to a wedding or elegant soiree. Otherwise, it may overwhelm the outfit. I like silver jewelry with this blue dress outfit combo.

4. Gold Shoes with Blue Dress

All metallics look great with a bold blue dress. Perfect if you want to look chic at a wedding or fancy party. In fact, gold makes for a great color shoes to wear with cocktail dresses too!

Unlike silver, gold is a warm metallic which creates a more contrasting effect when paired with a cool blue outfit. Gold shoes are also ideal shoes to wear with a purple dress too!

I prefer ‘paler' golds with blue dresses, but if you like more orange-hued golds, you can opt for those too. That's because orange also goes well with blue dresses!

Purse color & jewelry tip: White or beige & if the gold you've chosen is a less vibrant color, you can wear a small matching purse and still look stunning!

5. Blue Dress with Beige Shoes

A blue dress with beige heels is a classic combo. Beige or blush complements all skin tones and blue hues, so you can't go wrong! Beige will be less formal looking than a metallic or black shoe unless it's a patent.

That being said, it also depends on your dress, as there are so many possible types! Beige heels are best for busy dresses, whether cocktail dresses or blue bridesmaid dresses. It keeps the focus on your dress.

In an office environment, a classic pointy beige pump in smooth leather or suede, will look fabulous with a simple blue shift dress or suit.

6. Royal Blue Dress with Silver Shoes

A bright blue dress with silver shoes is such a fabulous combination! I love mirror metallics, but silver or opaque silver materials will do.

Silver shoes and accessories look particularly fab with cobalt and other bright blue bridesmaid dresses or formal gowns. But they're also the perfect shoes to wear with a grey dress too!

Purse color & jewelry tip: Matching silver heels with a silver clutch is lovely. Paired with blue it never looks ‘too much' due to the neutral nature of this metal.

A white purse would look great to complete the outfit. Keep all smaller accessories and jewelry a silver hue, rather than gold or bronze.

7. Blue Dress with Brown Shoes

I'll be the first to say that I often neglect this shoe color. However, brown shoes sneakily do work well with different color outfits. And yes, brown shoes look great with a royal blue dress!

Unless it blends in with your skin tone, brown shoes match more loose-fitting, casual dresses. They are not ideal for wearing to wear with a formal or blue cocktail dress. I love brown shoes with a blue-dress-office-look, myself!

Choose from a variety of brown shades including taupe, chocolate brown, caramel and even match your skin tone to create a nude for you!

Purse color & jewelry tip:: Any matching brown, orange, even baby blue purse would look fab. Finish the look with warm-toned accessories and jewelry, like gold.

8. Blue Dress With Green Shoes

If you're looking for bright color shoes to wear with a blue dress, green is IT! Apple green specifically (like the Nine West Ezra pointy pumps) is my absolute favorite bold color to pair with a dark blue anything.

It creates a beautiful, yet not too eye-popping because of its complementary cool tones.

Wanting to go green but are unsure too much color? You can always choose a deeper emerald hue or hunter green for a more subtle contrast.

Even forest green shoes can look beautiful with blue dresses at work, worn with a skirt suit or simple blue shift dress or jumpsuit.

Purse color & jewelry tip: You can have fun with your look with even MORE color when it comes to your purse choice! A fun sun yellow, burnt orange or hot pink clutch will look fab.

If you want to keep your outfit color party strictly on your feet, opt for a beige, white or dark brown purse.

9. Royal Blue Dress and Red Shoes

Red is a classic color and works wonderfully with blue outfits, particularly blue dresses. It gives the look a nautical feel, so I love it for summer and outdoor events.

Purse color & jewelry tip: A white, silver or even a gold purse (as long as kept on the smaller side) will look great. Feeling feisty & opting for red heels with a blue dress at work?

Pair the look with a black or beige briefcase. Or go the extra mile with a high shine metallic document clutch.

10. Pink Shoes with Blue Dresses

Adding a hot pink shoe to a bright blue dress is going to make a statement! More flirty than red, it's the perfect color shoe to wear with a casual or fancy blue dress. If you want to be more subtle, baby pink heels will look pretty too.

Purse color & jewelry tip: You can have a lot of fun with this combo! Carry a green or yellow clutch, or keep it more demure with a black patent or gold purse.

11. Animal Print Shoes

If beiges & browns are considered great color shoes for blue dresses, then leopard print or natural colored snake prints will be a hit!

It makes no difference if the animal print is dark or light, with a large or small print/texture. Just make sure you wear this bold print with a plain blue dress, otherwise, it will be too much. But the smooth blue uniform dress will look best!

12. Blue Dress with Clear Shoes or Heels

Clear shoes are THE shoes of the moment, especially in high heel form. And they will literally go with anything, including a bold blue dress.

You can opt for bejeweled lucite heeled shoes with transparent straps if your dress is simpler. Keep your clear heels minimal with a lace or busy dress, especially if it has a pattern!

Purse color & jewelry tip: you can match your purse with the base color of your clear shoes, whatever that might be, or opt for a pop of color like pink. Choose silver jewelry with this combo, or gold if your shoes have some beige or gold tones in them.

How About a Blue Dress with Blue Shoes?

Blue dress, blue shoes? I have reservations about going all matchy-matchy with a bright blue dress and shoes. That's because it can look very uninspired and potentially make you look like a bridesmaid.

However, matching your blue dress with your shoes can definitely work. Pick something strappy, minimal & elegant! Make sure your shoes have been dyed to match your blue dress in the same hue.

Or if your dress is royal blue and other hues, you can safely match your blue shoes to that of your dress.

If you're going to a red carpet occasion or similar in a long blue ball gown, a blue dress with matching blue shoes will work. As it will for a cocktail function.

You can even opt to have some fun with it if you go with a completely contrasting blue shoe. Like a dark navy or bright turquoise.

Purse color & jewelry tip: pick a contrasting purse for this blue-on-blue combo. A silver metallic or bejeweled clutch will look sophisticated, and you can complete the outfit with diamond and silver jewelry.
